1. BRAZIL

They are the highest coffee producer in the world, and they have retained this position for more than 150 long years now! Unbelievable, isn’t it? [1]

A high record of around 2,598,000 metric tons of Coffee was produced last year. An approx. distance of 27,000 km is covered with coffee plantation with a majority in Sao Paulo, Parana, Minas Gerais, and other southeastern states where both the temperature and climate are just favorable for the coffee production.

Brazil has also adopted different methods for processing coffee, for example drying the cherries under the sun skipping the washing process.

2. VIETNAM

Most of you guys will be familiar with the Vietnamese Coffee, which is prepared by mixing Coffee with the sweet condensed milk in it. They only had a 6000-ton production in the year 1975, and now it is almost 2 million! This high rise in the production has made Vietnam the second largest coffee producer in the world. [2]

Falling in the southeastern part of Asia, Vietnam produces an approx. of 1,700,000 metric tons annually. Coffee remained as one of the important members in Vietnam homes during as well as after the Vietnam War.

Here the main coffee species is the Robusta coffee, that makes about 96% of the total coffee production in Vietnam.

3. COLOMBIA

If you are an ardent Coffee lover, then you must have heard Coffee from Colombia already. Here the coffee origin comes from the European Union, and they used to be the largest coffee producers. But things have been strange lately, with the sudden rise in temperature.

There are specific temperature and atmosphere which is suitable for the coffee production. Lately, after 2010, Colombia has experienced drastic changes in the climate which has affected the coffee production. This also brought a vast change in the standard flavors of the coffee grown here.

As per last year’s record, Colombia produces about 810,000 metric tones of coffee yearly. [3]

4. INDONESIA

In the fourth position, we have Indonesia. Though they do not rank the highest in coffee production, they almost reached 700,000 metric tones last year. Also, their geographical location is just perfect for the coffee production, and even the location falls just near the equator.

Indonesia indeed has many mountainous places which are just the best for the coffee production.

Coffee was introduced by the Dutch colonists to Indonesia, and the production continued even after the colonization period. This happened because the climate was well-suited for the coffee production, and currently, 85% of their exports are of Coffee.

5. ETHIOPIA

Ethiopia is home to the famous Arabica Coffee, which is in demand and popular worldwide. They are into high coffee production with an approx. of 400,000 metric tons last year.

Believe it or not, Ethiopia has been into Coffee production for more than 1100 years now. This is the original home to the Arabica coffee that is loved by millions Coffee lover out there. 28% of the annual exports of this place, constitutes for the coffee, with 16 millions of Ethiopians employed in the same field. There are a certain variety of coffee beans like Limu, Harar, Sidamo which are exclusively grown in Ethiopia. All the rights and ownership are under the name of the government of Ethiopia.

6. INDIA

One among the largest democracies in the world, India is on the number 6 position for the coffee production. There are a variety of crops grown in this country, well, a huge variety I should say. Among them, you will find Coffee too! [5]

An estimate of 350,000 metric tons of coffee was produced in the year 2016-2017. They are usually grown by small home or large farm cultivators along with different spices like cardamom, cinnamon. This actually gives a unique flavor and additional spicy touch to the coffee beans. Mostly, they are grown in the rainy season. Both Tea & Coffee are equally popular in India, and around 80% of them are exported as well. [6]

7. HONDURAS

They belong to the Organic Coffee Producers, and they are the Best of all. They bagged the 9th position from Guatemala by a lead of 5K metric tons last year. Now it has got 2 more positions ahead! Honduras has got a cool atmosphere and all the suitable climate for the coffee production.

But they were lacking in terms of infrastructure and facilities which led to the decrease in the production. Things are going well as of now, and they are back on track. India and Honduras are having almost the same Coffee production, with a 348,000 metric tons of cultivation in a year.

8. UGANDA

The topmost export-earning thing of Uganda is none other than Coffee. It was introduced by the Ethiopians, and that’s how the Coffee production started in Uganda. Also, a great number of the Uganda population are into the business of Coffee and related work. [7]

Mostly, the coffee is grown in the Southern region of Uganda where both the Arabica and Robusta coffee are grown. Even in the year 1989, the export limit crossed the usual 2.5 million coffee bags. Still, people had to face certain export security problems which led to the decrease in the overall export. They produced an estimate of 288,000 metric tons of coffee in 2016.

9. MEXICO

They are into the production of high-quality Arabica beans which are grown near the coastal area of Guatemala.

Mexico is the largest producer of Coffee in the US, and they are the actual majority source behind all of the imports.

During the 1990s period, a major crisis hit the Coffee production which led to poor control of the coffee prices, and even the exporting work was not controlled properly. Mexico was going in losses, and it seemed pretty hard to recover them. [8]

But because of the Demand in the market, Mexico handled the issue well and they were able to cope with the losses smoothly. Due to the undying love for coffee and the hard work of many workers, Mexico is still ruling the market.

10. GUATEMALA

Guatemala held the 9th position for a long time which has been taken over by Mexico. Coming to Guatemala’s relation with Coffee, they have got just the best suitable climate for the coffee production.

It’s a small country which has made a strong place of itself in the coffee industry. The production started in the year 1850, and since then there hasn’t been any halt in the production. People keep on finding different lands which are suitable for coffee and start the production right away.
