But hey, you don’t have to worry.
Because I’ve got your back! I won’t let you make the same mistakes these amateurs tend to make(well, of course, you’re one too, but yeah whatever).
I’m a coffee lover too and when it comes to choosing coffee gadgets, man, I’m a genius!
So hold up, sit down and enjoy my pro tips to buy your perfect coffee thermos.
How to Choose a Thermos – 5 Essential Tips
So what are these enchanting tips that can lead you to make a good investment?
1. The Material
The material of coffee thermos is the most important factor for you to consider while making a purchase. As it is the basic thing that is going to keep your coffee warm.
So what makes a material, the material?
There are plenty of materials with good thermal insulation. But among them all, double walled stainless steel has proved to be of great use.
Thermoses from the best brands come with double walled stainless steel only. Some good ones can even keep your coffee warm for more than a day too!
However, cheaper ones tend to use tin or some cheap plastic, which of course, are not good thermal insulators. And thus can keep your beverage’s temperature intact for a couple of hours only.
Remember, a good thermal insulator does not get hot when poured with beverage and should not sweat when filled with cold drinks.
2. The Design
A good brand always leaves originality in its products. Just like the classic hammertone green color of Stanley!
There are various brands in the market making great products nowadays. Thus, the competition for innovation is also at peak.
From push-button lid release to a built-in coffee cup, there are amazing features offered from such brands. Other features such as strap for portability, inside nonstick coating for clean wash and anti-spill locking systems are there too!
Choose one with unique features to serve you well.
3. The Size/Portability
Coffee thermoses are available in various sizes. You can get products from 10-12 ounces to 100 ounces in capacity.
But the most important thing is, how much you need?
If you’re a solo ranger and need to sip for yourself only then you may choose something with 10 to 30-ounce capacity(Yes, that is enough, you greedy snob).
And if you need to take care of your people or family, go for a bigger one. Though choosing a bigger one can trouble you in portability as a thermos tends to get quite heavy when poured up.
If you are looking for one for your hikes and adventures then you must choose one that is compact, lightweight and leakproof.
4. Easy to Clean
Coffee thermos, because of their bottle-like shape, is tough to clean in a dishwasher. However, some brands do make thermoses that are dishwasher safe for hassle-free use.
Also, because of prolonged use, the beverage gets stuck on the internal side walls of the thermos. Make sure the inside walls are coated with a nonstick material, which will make your task a lot easier.
The coffee thermos should also be easy to disassemble. If not, some parts may not get cleaned properly.
5. The Lid
When you are willing to purchase something for portability purpose, it must not make a mess inside your backpack, right?
That is why you need to buy a coffee thermos with a well-designed lid. A cheaply made lid will let the liquid leak whenever tilted and result in a filthy backpack.
Also, if not insulated properly, the lid can let the heat sneak away even if the rear material work just fine.
Make sure the lid is made from a good quality plastic. Else you may have to endure the strong plastic-like smell everytime you take a sip.
Also, cheap lids tend to break if dropped accidentally.
6. The Price
Lastly, the price. A big price tag does not necessarily mean that the product will be that amazing. Rather than a big price tag, go for decent manufacturers that have been in the game for a long time and have a decent reputation.
Also, do not go for unobviously cheap products. Such products will not last you long, will not keep the temperature of your beverage intact and will result in a bad investment.
