Instant coffee is also known as the soluble coffee, and this product is mainly made using ground or roasted coffee beans. Now instant coffee refers to the style of coffee made using already brewed coffee beans. This helps in saving a good amount of preparation time.
What is Instant Coffee
For making instant coffee, coffee in the form of powdered coffee, coffee crystals, and soluble coffee are used. Any of the three forms of coffee are adopted for preparing instant coffee.
You need to simply add hot water into the coffee crystals or the powdered form, and then keep stirring. That’s it; you are all set with your Instant Coffee.
For getting the coffee beans set for instant coffee, two types of process are adopted commercially – one is spray drying, and the other one is freeze-drying.
After these processes, this same product can be rehydrated back for coffee preparation. Also, coffee in a high concentrated liquid form is also prepared, for the same instant coffee purpose.
Talking about the production, first of all, coffee extract is taken out.
In the spray drying method, the coffee extract is sprayed into a hot stream of air, and this is performed at the top of a cylindrical tower. With this process, you will find the droplets fall, and they are converted to fine powder till they reach the bottom space. Here the aroma and the texture of the coffee is preserved, and this is made possible because of the less processing time.
Checking out the freeze-drying method, you could easily get the idea of the process by the name. In this, the coffee extract is frozen to about -40°C, and they are transformed into granules. These granules then undergo drying at a low temperature, and they are also kept under vacuum. This method also performs the best in retaining the coffee flavor, with the presence of low temperature.
Some of the major benefits of using instant coffee include quick preparation, easy transfer (less shipping weight), less volume, and it can be used for a longer time. Though the instant coffee gets easily spoiled if any amount of moisture gets within it.
Hope you all understood what is an Instant Coffee, and how it is prepared. This style of coffee consumption is popular among all since it is easy to prepare and requires less preparation time.
If you haven’t tried this yet, then get one instant coffee powder and try it out for yourself.
